I admit, of their first five albums, this is probably the weakest. But, their weakest is another bands best, right? The hit from this was "Someday?", but the title track and "Ghost Of A Texas Ladies' Man" are pretty strong too. I also like "A Long Time Ago" and "I Wanna Be Your Friend Again", and "Coeurs Jumeaux" is a beautiful song done in French. Plus it ends with a "James Brown" cover. So, although this might not be the best pick for newcomers, it's essential to the fanatic, and overall pretty good.

Reinforced_concrete

: architect Jacques Dror, 1926–1933
Reinforced concrete (Ferro concrete) is plain concrete in which reinforcement in the form of rods, bars ("rebars") or fibers have been incorporated to strengthen the naturally brittle concrete. The use of reinforced concrete is a relatively recent invention, usually being considered as covering the last 150 years, and its accidental discovery is commonly ascribed to a Parisian gardener named Monier in about the year 1860. The vast majority of reinforcement is made of steel, but fiber-reinforced plastic materials are available. The major developments of reinforced concrete have taken place since the year 1900; and from the late 20th Century, engineers have developed sufficient confidence in a new method of reinforcing concrete, called post-tensioned concrete, to make routine use of it.Plain concrete will carry extremely high physical compression|compressive stress (physics)|stresses, but any appreciable tension will cause rupture and consequent failure. For this reason, plain ! concrete is limited in its use as a structural member subject to bending or direct tensile action. When reinforcement like steel bars are incorporated into concrete (''illustration, left''), a reinforced concrete section is created. This reinforced concrete section is much more efficient in carrying tensile forces due to bending or direct tension than a plain concrete section with the same dimensions. The general rule is: ''concrete takes the compression, steel takes the tension''. However, initially a newly-formed concrete member will behave according to general mechanics, until the concete cracks in tension. There are three physical characteristics which are responsible for the success of steel reinforced concrete. Firstly, the coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete is very nearly identical to that of steel, preventing internal stresses due to differences in heat|thermal expansion or contraction. Secondly, when concrete hardens it grips the steel bars very firmly, per! mitting stress to be transmitted efficiently between both mate! rials. U sually steel bars are roughened or corrugated to further improve the bond or cohesion between the concrete and steel. Third, the pH|alkaline chemical environment provided by portland cement causes a passivation|passivating film to form on the surface of steel, making it much more resistant to corrosion than it would be in neutral or acidic conditions.Although the ridges on rebar help, there is sometimes not enough length (actually surface area) of embedment of reinforcing steel in the concrete to fully bond|bond or transfer force between concrete and rebar. In these cases the rebar may be bent into a 180 degree hook, which itself will transfer half of the capacity of the rebar between the rebar and concrete. In some structural members where minimum cross-section is desired, steel may be used to carry some of the compressive load as well as tensile load. This occurs in columns. Continuous beams in buildings generally require some compressive steel at the columns, but beams a! nd slabs usually have reinforcing steel only on the tension side. In the case of continuous girders where the tensile stress alternates between top and bottom of the member, the steel is bent accordingly into a zig-zag shape within the beam. The amount of steel required for adequate reinforcement is usually quite small, varying from 1% for most beams and slabs to 6% for some columns. The percentage is usually based on the area in a right cross section of the member. Reinforcing bars are round and vary by eighths of an inch from 0.25 in to 1 in in diameter (in Europe from 8 to 30 millimeter|mm in steps of 2 mm). Also Galvanization|galvanized rebar is available.
Typically, concrete will have reached its nominal design strength at most 28 days after the water was mixed into the cement mix.Reinforced concrete structures sometimes have provisions (such as ventilated hollow cores) to control their moisture.Corrosion and frost may damage poorly designed or constructed reinforced concrete. When rebar corrosion|corrodes, the rust expands, cracking the concrete and unbonding the rebar from the concrete. Frost damage occurs when water penetrates the surface and freezes. The expansion of freezing water in microscopic cracks widens the cracks, causing flaking, and eventual structural failure. In wet and freezing climates, reinforced concrete for roads, bridges, parking structures and other structures that may be exposed to deicing|deicing salt may require epoxy-coated rebar or a well composited concrete well planes structure. Epoxy coated rebar can easily be identified by the light green color of its epoxy coating. Penetrating sealants must ! be applied some time after curing, when the concrete has dried to at least several inches of depth. One especially exotic process is to surround the cured concrete member with a vacuum bag filled with resin monomer, and then after the monomer has penetrated several inches into the concrete, the monomer is cured with a gamma ray source. This produces a very hard, attractive surface that can be dyed through the material, so chips and scratches are less visible. Less expensive sealants include paint, plastic foams, films and aluminum foil, felts or fabric mats sealed with tar, and layers of bentonite clay, sometimes used to seal roadbeds.

Universal_life_insurance

Universal Life (UL) is a type of permanent life insurance based on a cash value. That is, the policy is established with the insurer where premium payments above the cost of insurance are credited to the cash value. The cash value is credited each month with interest, and the policy is debited each month by a cost of insurance (COI) charge, which is drawn from the cash value if no premium payment is made that month. The interest credited to the account is determined by the insurer; often it is pegged to a financial index. Because only the amount of interest credited and not the cash value itself varies, UL policies offer a stable investment option. A similar type of policy that was developed from universal life policies is the variable universal life insurance policy, or VUL. VUL's allow the cash value to be directed to a number of separate accounts that operate like mutual funds and can be invested in stock or bond investments with greater risk and potential reward.Univer! sal life is similar in some ways to, and was developed from whole life insurance. The potential advantage of the universal life policy is in its flexibility and the potential for greater cash value growth if the interest rates offered outperform the insurer's general account (that whole life policy cash value growth is based on). Universal life is more flexible than whole life in two primary ways: the death benefit and usually the premium payment are flexible. The death benefit can be increased (subject to insurability) and decreased without surrendering the policy or getting a new one as would be required with whole life. Also a range of premium payments can be made to the policy, from a minimum amount to cover various guarantees the policy may offer to the maximum amount allowed by IRS rules. The primary difference is that the universal life policy shifts some of the risk for maintaining the death benefit to the insured. In a whole life policy, as long as every premium pa! yment is made, the death benefit is guaranteed to be paid if t! he insur ed dies. In a UL the policy will lapse (the death benefit will no longer be in force) if the cash value or premium payments are not enough to cover the cost of insurance. To make their policies more attractive insurers often add guarantees, where if certain premium payments are made for a given period, the policy will remain in force even if the cash value drops to zero.

Havighurst adds a very needed point a view to the debate about health care devlivery in the US, particularly in light of the debate surrounding the Patient Protection Act.Havighurst outlines that the biggest factor contributing to problems in health care financing rests in the fact that the financing structure of employee-based insurance de-couples consumption of services from cost.In addition, the dominance of health care by the medical profession's vague and subjective standards regarding medical necessity coupled with the American myth of health care as a right sets up a system where cost is not taken into account when making treatment decisions. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the the Patients Bill of Rights will cause in increase in insurance premiums of 4.2%; about 1.7% of this will be "passed through" to workers in the form of less taxeble income, resulting in a loss of about $22 billion in Social Security taxes over the next nine years, further straining an ! already weak program. The rest of the increase will cause a decrease in benefits, employers dropping coverage, and higher employee costs.Havighurst's book outlines how innovative health care contracts can be structured to provide varied levels of coverage and pricing, in order to allow real choice in benefits and costs, rather than letting the Federal governement dictate the degree of insurance one must purchase. It is a worthwhile read for anyone intersted in health policy.

Death_spiral_financing

Death spiral financing occurs when a small types of companies|company, in desperate need of money, takes an investor's cash, but with a caveat. That investor, at the time of their choosing, can claim some of the company's stock, usually at a fraction of the market value. That seller can then start claiming and sell short |selling the stock short. Because the company is small, this depresses the value of the stock, thus allowing the investor to claim and sell more stock. The options to buy stock are known as "toxic" or "death spiral" convertibles.

I bought these speakers without any real expectations and was pleasantly surprised. They have a good sound, good bass and they are overall a fine set of speakers. The only minor complaint I have is that there is no volume control button on the speakers, only on the subwoofer which I put on the ground, under my desk for the bass to carry better. But I can adjust using the volume control on my computer so it's not a big deal. Overall, I'd highly recommend them. They are a great deal!

Pulque

''Pulque'', or ''octili,'' is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation|fermented juice of the maguey, and is a traditional native beverage of Mesoamerica. The maguey plant is not a cactus (as has sometimes been mistakenly suggested) but an agave elsewhere called the "century plant". The plant was one of the most sacred plants in Mexico and had a prominent place in mythology, religious rituals, and Meso-American industry.Pulque is depicted in Native American stone carvings from as early as 200 AD. The origin of pulque is unknown, but because it has a major position in religion, many folk tales explain its origins. According to pre-Columbian history, during the reign of Tecpancaltzin, a Toltec noble named Papantzin found out how to extract ''aguamiel'' from the maguey plant. Prior to the Spanish colonisation of the Americas|Spanish conquest, the Aztecs consumed it at religious ceremonies.Pulque is made in the following fashion: When the plant's flower stem shoots up, i! t is hollowed in the centre. The juice that should have supplied the flowers is taken from it daily, for a period of about two months. This juice is then fermented, after which it is immediately fit for drinking. Pulque is still made and drunk in limited quantities in parts of Mexico today. However, because it cannot easily be stored or preserved, it is not well known outside the country. Mezcal (or mescal) is the name given to a double-distilled spirit which comes from the maguey plant. Today there are well defined and regulated regions (A.O.C.) for both mezcal and Tequila in Mexico. Tequila is the name of a mezcal from the region of western Mexico around the town of Tequila, Jalisco. Pulque is the natural juice of the maguey plant, whereas mezcal is the clear spirit made out of the heart of the plant itself.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure, most generally, is the set of interconnected structural elements that provide the framework for supporting the entire structure. It usually applies only to structures that are artificial. The term is used differently in a variety of fields; perhaps the single most well-known usage is in economics, where it refers to infrastructural capital|physical infrastructure such as buildings and roads.

Alcopop

Alcopop is a term coined by the popular Mass media|media of the United Kingdom to describe 'alcoholic soft drinks'.In the alcohol industry they are known as RTDs (ready to drink) or FABs (Flavoured Alcoholic Beverages). These drinks, such as alcoholic lemonade, tend to be sweet, served in small bottles (typically 200–275Millilitre|ml), and between 5-7% alcohol by volume. These drinks emerged onto the market in the mid-1990s with the launch of Merrydown's Two Dogs and Hooper's Hooch (alcopop)|Hooch. Many more have followed, as the drinks became increasingly popular, especially with younger people.Later, Mike's Hard Lemonade was released in the United States, with humorous commercials depicting what they called "violence against lemons". Smirnoff also came out with another citrus-flavoured malt beverage in the late 90s called Smirnoff Ice, which promoted itself with flashy commercials, usually involving trendy young people dancing in unlikely situations and places. Some pa! rts of the media expressed intense concern that such drinks might appeal to children as they tend to be sweet and brightly coloured. Many Alcohol advertising|alcopop advertising campaigns have been criticised as trying to make alcopops appeal to young drinkers. However, the majority of those who consume such beverages in the U.S. are over age 27, according to the Federal Trade Commission (Federal Trade Commission, 2003). Nevertheless concern remains. As a result Germany has imposed an extra duty of 0.80 to 0.90 euro per bottle effective August 1, 2004. Some now carry a warning stating that they are not for consumption by minors (under 18 in the UK and 21 in the United States). Other sweet alcoholic beverages that had been around for years, such as cider, wine coolers, and liqueurs, escaped this concern. While the amount of beer being sold worldwide has dropped drastically, the sale of alcopops has taken off dramatically. This is thought to be because the sweetness of alcopop! s appeals to younger drinkers more readily than the taste of w! ine or b eer, and are less detectable on the drinker's breath.Reference* Federal Trade Commission.
